This was beyond embarrassing. Lucas had a genius IQ, and here he was in the English Literacy classroom after school for tutoring.
He'd be the top student in his class if it weren't for his dyslexia. For that, he was stuck at number two.
Lucas pushed open the door and was unsurprised to find that the top student in the junior class at Excelsior was going to be his tutor.
"Great."

Lilah looked up from the book she was reading. "You're late."

"Car trouble." Lucas lied smoothly, sitting at the table next to Lilah. He wasn't about to spill his entire story about anger management classes to her.
"You're not going to tell anyone about this."

"About you being late or about me tutoring you?" She asked, pushing her bangs behind her ear and closing her book.

"Both. I have a reputation to maintain." He pulled his books out of his backpack and set them on the table.
"Let's just get this over with."

Lilah sighed. Whatever, she didnt care how this guy talked to her. It's not like he was the only one.
"Take your book out and read it to me out loud." She said, taking her own out.

Lucas grabbed the book. [i[The Bourne Identity[/i]. He'd seen the movie, but never knew there was a book until the assignment came along to analyze the ... Something or another.
"The man is Cain said clone Jack Manning buntley." He stopped at that point. He had already read it wrong.

"Why did you stop?" Lilah asked, looking at him with a soft expression.

Lucas shut the book. Discouragement was quick with him.
"I can't do it."

"Yes you can. You knew you made a mistake. Noticing it is the first step." She said in a reassuring voice.

Lucas rubbed his eyes, counting backwards from 10 in his head to keep cool.
"Can we do a different book?"

"Whatever you want." Lilah said, sitting back and looking at him. There was something about him she recognized... she couldnt put a finger on it.

Lucas pulled a book of short essays towards him and opened it up to the essay he was supposed to read for homework.
"Once More to the Lake by E.B. White." He said slowly.
He looked up from he book, glancing at Lilah, but mostly looking at the wall. "E.B. White. Didn't he write kids books?"

"My sister used to read those to me. You know, when I was a kid." Lucas frowned. His sister wasn't the happiest subject.
