Lucas pushed open the door to the Sidewalk Cafe, looking around for Lilah.
When he'd asked if they could work outside of school, he didn't mean in such a public place. Lucas wasn't sure how well he'd be able to handle things in a place like this.

Lilah walked into the cafe, arm in a sling. She got into a really big fight with Jessie yesterday, and those dont end well. She was surprised she wasnt on crutches.
She sat in front of Lucas with a big sigh. "Sorry I'm late. I had to go to the doctor, then head home for my stuff."

Lucas turned around and his eyes instantly fell on Lilah's injuries.
"Jesus... What happened to you?"

"Fell in my room." She laughed, good at feigning the smile. "Tripped over the laundry basket."

Lucas grimaced. "Tripped over the laundry basket? Like I haven't heard that one before."
He found a table and sat down at it, still looking Lilah over.
"You know, there's a lot of people in my boxing class who take self-defense training."

"If you keep telling yourself that, you'll never be free." Lucas sighed.
"Are you gonna sit?"

Lilah did, and then took out her book. "So, what chapter do you want to start on?"

"I don't want to start until you tell me the truth." Lucas replied, taking out his own book and setting it on the table.

"What truth?" Lilah asked, a totally serious expression on her face.

"You don't break your arm tripping over the laundry basket."
He picked up the table menu and scanned the list of coffees. "It's the most obvious lie and I've heard it before. Like I said, there are girls in my boxing class who take self defense."

"I fell. I'm clumsy." She said, her eye brows knitting together.

"I can't read, but I'm not an idiot." Lucas frowned.
"If you don't want to tell me who broke your arm, fine. But I'm not going to pretend I'm ignorant to what's happening to you."
