Ronnie was livid. She stormed to Jamie's house after a week of having no idea where he was. She hated games, she hated being toyed with, and of course, she always turned things into things they weren't. Always interpreted and twisted things in her head.
She knocked on the door, and when his aunt answered she just walked right in, to pissed to be polite. Ronnie didn't even hear Maddie yell at her, she was so zoned out.
She found Jamie at the kitchen table, facing away from her. She started talking as she kept walking toward him through the kitchen.
"I'm gone for a couple weeks to take my dad to a special hospital, and i come back and you've disappeared? What is that about, Jamie? I've been worried sick and you don't return my pho..." Ronnie stopped dead in her tracks when she faced him.
"Wh... what happened?" She asked, stunned, her features contorting from anger to worry.

If Jamie felt like shit, it was nothing to how he looked. His hair was disheveled, his skin pale, eyes blood-shot and sunken-in. It didn't help that he wore a black shirt with dark green plaid pajama bottoms - the dark accentuated his sickly color.
He'd been out of the hospital for one week and things at home were at an all-time low. He barely left his room. It was mere coincidence that he was in the kitchen, fighting with Maddie, when the doorbell rang.
"I'm sorry."

"Jamie..." She said, almost in question, almost folding over to her knees in front of him.
"What happened?"

"Uh. I kind of..." He trailed off, hearing Maddie's footsteps just beyond the kitchen door.
He nodded towards the back staircase and stood up. "My dear aunt isn't so happy with me right now."

Ronnie grabbed his hand, the fitting of their hands exactly what she missed, but his hands were cold... and she didn't like that. It wasn't Jamie.
"Lead the way."

Once in his room, Jamie threw a bunch of clothes into his open closet and shut the door. His version of "tidying up".
When Ronnie was in, he shut the door.
"My aunt shut off my cell service. I'm grounded for eternity."

"Why?" She asked, taking in his room. She'd never seen it before. It was very him, which made her smile.

Blunt honesty had never been so hard for Jamie.
"I'm kind of thinking you might want to sit down."

Ronnie eyed him, but decided that this was going to be over a month of a story, so she should probably listen to him. She sat on his bed, resting her back on the headboard. After a deep breath, she looked at Jamie expectantly.

"When I first met you, I had two options: get to know you, or get high. You gave me a chance. I took it. But I never told you much about the..." He hesitated, pacing back and forth.
"Drugs. I had been using it for over a month when I first met you, and I kept using it for a couple months after. Ronnie," He looked at her.
"It was heroin."

Ronnie closed her eyes. She'd seen what that could do to a person back in the scene in New York. A lot of good friends tore themselves apart.
She took another breath, knowing there was still more to come, and looked at him again.

Jamie began pacing again.
"I tried to clean my act up. You inspired me. I wanted to be better than that, for you. But the day after you left... I hadn't used in three days until then. Withdrawal was..."
He thought about what happened with Gabe, and shook his head.
"It was too hard. I kept fucking up. I couldn't do it, so I used again." He hesitated again.
"Doctor Drake explained what happened to me after."

Ronnie took it in, running her hands through her hair, a habit she picked up from her dad.
"So what happened from the time you used, to the point where you got to the hospital, to now? It's been over a month." She said, carefully thinking about the time periods so she didnt mess them up. She thought she was following, but was still piecing the story together.

"According to Doctor Drake, it takes 48 hours for heroin to get out of your system. The body begins to detox immediately, so if you go right back to the dose you were taking before you stopped, it's too much." He paused and closed his eyes.
"It's overdose. My friend Marshall found me in the park, unconscious. He called an ambulance. When I woke up..." He opened his eyes and looked at the ceiling.
"When I woke up, a month had passed. My body detoxed while I was in the coma. I'm in sobriety now, but I still feel terrible."

Ronnie looked down. "You're going to stay sober?"
