Marshall crutched his way through Trader Joe's, awkwardly pushing along his cart. He was shopping for things to cook later that week for dinner.

Miles walked through the aisles of Trader Joes, looking skeptically at the pricemarks on the products she needed the most.
She had her two year old daughter, Maya, on one hip, and her grocery basket on her opposing arm.
And then Maya started crying. Very very loudly.

Marshall spun quickly at the sound.
It was just a baby. Albeit, a reallllly loud baby.
Not sure of what else to do, he walked over to the woman.
"Need help with something?"

Miles put down the grocery basket and began bobbing Maya up and down on her hip gently.
"I'm sorry. She dropped her toy somewhere." She said to Marshall as she tried to calm the screaming toddler.

Marshall looked around quickly.
"Uhhhhhhh. Ah."
He hobbled over a few feet to a baby toy that was lying on the ground.
"This it?"

"Yes! Oh my god, thank you so much." Miles took the toy from Marshall and waved it in front of Maya, who grabbed it from her at once and ceased crying immediately.
"I'm sorry." She said again.

"No worries. I'm sure its not easy raising a baby." Marshall said back, but he instantly felt stupid for saying it for some reason.

Miles smiled. This wasn't the first time someone had failed to recognize that she was a 16 year old mom - of course it wasn't easy.
"It's a challenge, but she's worth it." She replied as she brushed a strand of curly hair out of Maya's face.
