"Or maybe you just didn't pick up on it. But the difference between my secrets and yours is I've got nothing to hide. Ask me anything at all and I'll tell you straight up how it is." He finished off his water.

Ronnie sat back, eying him for a moment. "You're quite observant." She chuckled a bit, her eyes softening. "You remind me of my little brother that way. He notices everything."

Jamie smacked his forehead. "Please don't compare me to your brother."
He shook his long hair out of his face. "How will I ever be able to make something of this if you do?"

"No!" She laughed. "I love my brother. If you LOOKED like my brother, that would be a different story." Ronnie couldnt help but smile.
"It's refreshing, actually. Not many people get that compliment out of me. Jonah's very unique. No one is like him." She acted like a proud momma when she talked about him. But she couldn't help it. She was basically raising him at the moment.

"So, it's normal to spill your guts and tell your deepest darkest secrets to someone you've only met twice?" Ronnie asked, tilting her head to the side, pretending to be confused.

He picked up his glass of water, looking at the chunks of ice sitting at the empty bottom.
"I won't look at you any differently than I'm looking at you now." Jamie reassured her.

"I wouldn't expect you to." She shrugged. "I'm not that abnormal. Parents divorced, and it was a messy one, and now I live with my father here in Nowhere with my brother because he flipped when i moved here and he wasnt allowed to." She paused, remembering the day her mother called and asked her to convince Jonah to stay in New York. She'd blatantly refused, saying that she would never do what her mother told her to.

Ronnie glared at him. Why was anyone interested in this boring stuff? "Well, my mother cheated on my father and is now engaged to that guy, and she made me think for a year that he just abandoned us, and when I found out i left home and came to live here. I dont like nor agree with my mother in any way, shape, or form, and i was ecstatic when Jonah wanted to come live here with me and my dad, because it was kind of a shove in the face to her." Ronnie paused, gathering her thoughts.
"Now, I've really learned to hate my mother, because she took me away from my father - my best friend, for a year for no reason, and that took away a year that i couldve spent with him before he was diagnosed with stomach cancer and it started spreading to his lungs and liver." She was talking really fast by this point, and one she started babbling, she knew she couldnt stop.
"Now he's dying, and i was so mad at him for so long for nothing... I've stopped playing piano, my sister's dead, and now my father is going. I can't handle it, but i pretend I can for Jonah's sake, because he's only 9 and the poor kid can barely handle watching my dad cough let alone watching me go crazy like I right now... sorry about that..." She sighed, catching her breath.
"Sorry for all that. It's not very interesting... But you asked." She was being uncharacteristically unsure of herself, but she couldnt help it. Spill her guts he wanted and spill her guts he got.

Jamie listened to her every word.
When she had finally finished, he leaned across the table and kissed her.

Ronnie's eyes opened wide, and she was frozen for a second until finally she melted into the kiss. Finally, she found something that made her stop thinking... something to let her just be.
She pulled back and looked at him, eyebrows knitted together. "Why'd you do that?"
